Description/Job Summary

PITT OHIO, a $705 million, high service, highly profitable, transportation solutions provider offering SUPPLY CHAIN, GROUND, LTL and TRUCKLOAD services is seeking a Human Resource Summer Intern. This internship position is located at our corporate headquarters in the Strip District area of Pittsburgh, PA.

In this summer internship, the selected candidate will learn about the essential functions of Human Resources and will work on various projects within the Human Resources department. In addition to learning the functions of the Human Resources department, all interns will work on a group intern project that will be presented to the company Executives and Managers upon completion. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable real world work experience. This is an ideal position for a college student who desires to work in a fast paced, dynamic atmosphere and be exposed to all aspects of Human Resources.


  • Contact potential candidates via phone to conduct phone screens
  • Schedule interviews for open positions
  • Track information necessary for recruiting in Excel
  • Use the resume database in ZipRecruiter and Monster to contact potential candidates
  • Utilize various job boards including ZipRecruiter, Careerbuilder, and Monster to post open positions
  • Use BALANCEtrak (Applicant Tracking System) to send emails to potential applicants
  • Complete Daily Open Requisition Report and email to upper management
  • Create and email a report of open positions in our Enterprise to send to local Veteran groups
  • Conduct employee reference checks
  • Conduct exit Interviews
  • Process and track New Hire Packets
    • Audit Applicant Tracking System/HRIS data across the enterprise
    • Assist in developing, posting and organizing job descriptions
  • Assist with Performance Review Tracking
  • Prepare Data for monthly Turnover Report
  • Assist with research on employee training process and conducting surveys in Qualtrics
  • Prepare monthly and other HR Metrics
  • Compensation Analysis
  • Match military occupational specialty codes to PITT OHIO job descriptions
  • Research high schools and vocational schools in our footprint
  • Create initiatives that advance PITT OHIO’s Affirmative Action Plans
  • Sick Leave Law update within our footprint
  • Must be majoring in Human Resources or a related field
  • Minimum QPA of at least 3.0
  • Must be a Junior or Senior level college student
  • Proficiency in MS Office, with emphasis on Excel and Word
  • Ability to conduct quantitative research
  • Must be able to demonstrate creativity
  • Attention to detail is a must
  • Must be able to work well independently as well as part of a team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to multi-task
  • Ability to learn additional software quickly 
  • Ability to remain flexible/adaptable and excel in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
